Mariya Lasitskene became the first High Jump athlete in history to win three consecutive World Championships titles, scaling a height of 2.04m to successfully defend her crown in Doha.
Although the day might have belonged to Lasitskene, there were as many as four jumpers who went over 2m and made the event a spectacle, particularly the young Ukrainian jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
Lasitskene won her third consecutive world women’s High Jump title, going all out to 2.04m for the win, getting first time clearances all the way from 1.84m to the winning height.
Mahuchikh broke two Junior World Record, to win Silver with an impressive height of 2.04m. USA’s Vashti Cunningham won the bronze medal with an equal Personal Best (PB) of 2.00m
In the men’s Discus, Sweden’s Daniel Stahl and Jamaica’s Fedrick Dacres served up the expected duel, but it was the former who prevailed in the contest.
Stahl headed into the competition with higher wins in their head-to-heads this season and then proved himself right on the biggest stage, going out to a 67.59m throw in the third round, a mark no one else matched. Fedrick Dacres was 2nd with a best throw of 66.94m while Lukas Weisshaidinger of Austria took the bronze with a mark of 66.82m.
