Donavan Brazier after winning the 800m at the World Champs in Doha

At the Big Friendly Meet III in Portland, reigning World Champion Donavan Brazier clocked a World Lead (WL) of 1:43.84 in the men’s 800m, his fastest opener ever for a thorough win ahead of Drew Windle who came through in 1:49.64.

About a month ago, Brazier at the same meet had run a Personal Best (PB) and WL of 3:35.85 in the men’s 1500m.

Chanelle Price took the women’s 800m in 2:01.71 ahead of a newly turned pro Nia Akins in 2:02.07 and Brenda Martinez in 2:02.81.

Briton Josh Kerr also won the men’s 1500m, running a WL of 3:34.53 to finish ahead of Will Paulson who mounted a big PB of 3:35.59. Craig Engels placed 3rd in 3:36.01, while Vincent Ciattei took well over 3 seconds off his previous PB with a time of 3:36.35.

Shannon Rowbury topped the women’s equivalent in 4:03.62, well clear of Karisa Nelson and Rebecca Mehra in 4:08.48 and 4:08.78 respectively.
