Eke whose father is Nigerian and mother Ghanaian, has represented Ghana at several international events including the Rio Olympics and 2018 Commonwealth Games, and won Silver in the women’s Triple Jump event at the 2014 African Championships in Marrakech, upgrading to GOLD in Durban two years later. She set the Ghanaian Record of 14.33m while competing at the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston last year, which qualified her for the Doha World Championships and Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Speaking to Ghanaian media platform CitiSPORTS during the week, she said, “The mission of Axxelerate at its core is to provide athletes the opportunity to educate themselves and to provide them the network that is necessary to transfer the skill set that they have in the sport. I think a lot of the time athletes are so good at what they do but lack the confidence to do other things. And unfortunately, the sport is only a short window.
“What we are trying to do is to start to equip athletes with the resources that helps them translate the skill sets they have in the sport into doing things beyond the sport and also teaching them how to brand themselves. How do you brand yourself, how do you create opportunities and leverage the experiences that you’ve had as an athlete to create opportunities for yourself that you can translate those experiences effectively and really give you more opportunities professionally?”
Eke graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Psychology in 2015 and had previously served as an Assistant Coach for New York University’s Track and Field team.
