Though year 2020 came with a lot of challenges, the season is ending on a high note for Nigerian hurdler David Olowookere who has relocated to the US, having secured a Track scholarship to Drake University to study Law, Politics and Society.
The 2018 National Sports Festival (NSF) Champion in the men’s 400m Hurdles will be joining Nigerian teammate Yinka Ajayi who is also in the institution.
Olowookere who arrived the US on Wednesday, December 23rd, said he is excited at joining the Drake Bulldogs, and is looking forward to making his indoor debut in South Dakota on January 15th and 16th, 2021.
Olowookere is aiming to make a mark for the Drake Bulldogs in the 400m Hurdles in the nearest future. He comes with an outdoor PB of 51.07s enroute his victory at the NSF two years ago, and later in the season, will be looking forward to bettering the Outdoor School Record of 50.16s set by Malik Metivier in 2018.
He said, “I feel pretty good and excited, and coming to the US is a dream come true too. I’m looking forward to my first indoor meet and I’m excited and trusting in God for a massive Personal Best (PB) and a School Record probably, being my first indoor race.”
