The trio of Blessing Oborududu (68kg), Aminat Adeniyi (62kg) and youngster Adijat Idris (50kg) have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics on Day 2 of action at the ongoing African and Oceania Olympic Qualifying tournament holding in Tunisia.

2018 Commonwealth Games GOLD medallist Oborududu barely broke a sweat enroute claiming a GOLD medal in the women’s 68kg, scoring back-to-back technical superiority wins over Egypt’s Enas Mostafa Youssef Khourshed AHMED and against Anta SAMBOU from Senegal to complete her dominance in the class.

In the women’s 62kg, two-time Commonwealth Games GOLD medallist Adeniyi was faced with the daunting task of prevailing against world No.1 Marwa Amri, who’s also the most decorated African women’s wrestler ever, but marginally fell 3-1 via a takedown to the Tunisian. Adeniyi was able to win her bouts in two other rounds to finish with Silver in the category.

Meanwhile, youngster Idris’ three wins out of four bouts was enough for the National Cto grab the Silver medal in the women’s 50kg and a career first Olympic ticket.

Oborududu, Adeniyi and Idris join Odunayo Adekuoroye on the list of qualified wrestlers heading to the Tokyo Olympics.

Ebikweminomo Welson 57kg,  Amas Daniel 65kg, John Emmanuel Ogbonna 74kg,  Ekerekeme Agiomor 86kg and Tamarau Soso 97kg will each slug it out for an Olympic berth On Day3 of the qualifying tournament.
