Tima Godbless has shown promise all season in the women’s short sprints, one that she fully fulfilled at the World U-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, as she powered to a massive Personal Best (PB) and National Junior Record (NJR) of 11.08s (0.1) to win the fourth heat of the women’s 100m!

By so doing, she broke the NJR set by Joan Uduak Ekah which had stood for 23 years by two-hundredths of a second and was infact the fastest qualifier across all seven (7) heats of the women’s 100m.

Her teammate Praise Oforku also qualified for the semifinals from the preceding heat, running 11.55s to finish 2nd behind South Africa’s Viwe Jingqi in 11.36s.

Athletics is a special shade of life for me, and my confidence has received a boost since I started out covering the sport from the stands of my home, and now as a Junior Sportswriter with Making of Champions - an opportunity to get better at what I do.

  1. That was impressive running by Godbless. She should be competing in the Commonwealth Games rather than these championships and is clearly one to watch out for. Nigerian track and field is gradually witnessing a revival especially women. Godbless, Ofili, Chukuwuma, Amusan, Nwokocha, Udo-Gabriel, these women will write their names into the record books soon
