It was a quiet weekend for Nigerian athletes on the international scene as only a handful of them were in action, with most of them preserving their energy for the Nigerian Trials for the World Championships set to hold in Benin in less than two weeks.
Usheoritse Itsekiri stormed to a Personal Best (PB) of 20.34s in the men’s 200m ahead of Jeremiah Lauzon (20.83s) and Michael Roth (20.85s) at the Johnny Loaring Classic in Ontario, showing fine form ahead of the National Championships.
Earlier on, he had dashed to a slightly wind-aided time of 10.03s (+2.3m/s) to win the men’s 100m ahead of Bismark Boateng (10.13s) and Malachi Murray (10.17s).
About 449 miles away, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi placed 2nd in the men’s Shotput with a distance throw of 21.43m, just 7cm behind Payton Otterdahl (21.50m) at the New York City Grand Prix.
In the women’s Discus Throw, Ashley Anumba ranked 3rd with a mark of 59.81m, while Chioma Onyekwere was 6th with 54.04m. Yamie Perez won the event with a flighty 67.44m.
