The women’s Long Jump is a flourishing event for Nigeria at the World Championships, contributing to three out of the 11 medals won by the country in the history of the biennial showpiece.

Olympic Bronze and two-time world medallist in the event, Ese Brume will be making her fourth World Championships as one of Nigeria’s strongest medal hopefuls.

She opened her season with a win at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix. A month later,  she leaped to a wind-aided 6.88m to record another win at the Montreuil International Meet. Brume has a Season’s Best (SB) of 6.81m, which was achieved at the Orlen Janusz Memorial Meet where she was victorious yet again.

The three-time African Champion won a Bronze in the event in Doha 2019, where she ended Nigeria’s medal drought at the  World Championships since 2013. She upgraded the medal colour to Silver three years later at Oregon 2022. She will be hoping to get the GOLD this time around.

Ruth Usoro is making her second World Championships appearance after making her debut last year in Oregon 2022. Usoro also started her season with a win at the Miramar Invitational where she recorded a wind-aided leap of 6.82m.

She followed it up with a 3rd place finish at the Bermuda Grand Prix, jumping to a legal Personal Best (PB)  of 6.82m. Her last competition was at the Ed Murphy Classics in August.

The former NCAA Champion made the final last year where she placed 11th, and wil target a podium finish in Budapest.

Brume and Usoro competed together on three occasions last year where they both made the finals on all occasions but the former went on to medal in all.
