Team Nigeria’s Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro were in action in the qualifying rounds of the women’s Long Jump at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Brume, a Silver and Bronze medallist in the event, whose performances over the years has earned her the name “medal magnet,” had no issues at all in qualification, hitting a second round attempt of 6.72m for a safe pass into the final.
Although it took a while for her to warm into the competition and she was 4th in the Group A pool which was led by Tara Davis-Woodhall and Marthe Koala with first-round attempts of 6.87m and 6.84m, Brume has indicated that she will be on the line for Gold when the final kicks off on Sunday afternoon.
Ruth Usoro who was a finalist at last year’s World Championships, narrowly missed out on making the final. She was in the 12th and final qualifying spot with a mark of 6.60m, only to be tipped off the standings by Fatima Diame who jumped 6.61m in her last attempt.
