Oblique Seville has had injury issues to deal with this season, but there was no holding him back as he powered away from the field to win heat five of the men’s 100m in an equal Personal Best (PB) of 9.86s (0.0)!
He finished ahead of defending World Champion, Fred Kerley who eased to 9.99s while Henrik Larsson was 3rd in 10.16s. In this heat, there was a some delay and this might have gotten Favour Ashe on the edge as he earned a disqualification for false-starting.
Noah Lyles finished very strong to win the second heat of the men’s 100m in 9.95s (-0.6), the second fastest time overall in qualification. It was his first time running the event at the World Championships, as he edged Ferdinand Omanyala, the Kenyan coming through in 9.97s while Usheoritse Itsekiri came 3rd in 10.17s.
Akani Simbine in his own heat, the last, won in 9.97s (-0.1)! He finished ahead of Christian Coleman who stepped foot off the gas, coming through in 9.98s while Asian Champion Hiroki Yanagita was 3rd in 10.20s.
World Leader, Zharnel Hughes won the opening heat in 10 seconds flat, while every other top contender – Lamont Marcell Jacobs, Letsile Tebogo, Reece Prescod, Rohan Watson – all confirmed their spots in tomorrow’s semifinals.
