Temitope Adeshina has taken the NCAA by a storm! Quiet and unassuming, Adeshina made a big statement on her home-front at the Corky Classic in Texas, taking Nigerian women’s High Jump to new heights as she soared to a National Record (NR) of 1.96m. She eclipsed the National Record of 1.95m outdoors and 1.93m (indoors), both set by Doreen Amata.
It was only her second competition since she arrived the US to further both her academic and athletic careers and she had started the year with a modest 1.83m a week before where she finished joint first with her teammate. This time, there was no such thing as she completely blew the competition out of the water, breaking the Texas Tech School Record and immediately climbing to the top of the global toplist in 2024!
She entered the event at the 1.72m height and gradually warmed herself into the competition, having first time clearances up till 1.85m. She took two attempts to clear the 1.88m bar and then nailed 1.91m at the first time of asking, taking down the School Record first before she attempted the winning height.
Adeshina, with her new Personal Best (PB) just 1cm shy of the Olympic qualification standard, now makes herself one to watch both in the US Collegiate system and globally.
