The quartet of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Dubem Nwachukwu, and Patience Okon George joined forces to claim a Silver medal in the mixed 4x400m on Day 2 of the 2024 African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

Ojeli ran a tactical first leg to put Nigeria in medal contention, handing the baton over to Onojuvwevwo who smoked the field by over 10m to give Nigeria the lead, handing the baton to Nwachukwu.

Botswana and South Africa took over and Okon-George tried to put Nigeria back in the lead and was in the GOLD medal position until Miranda Coetzee got past her on the home straight to give South Africa the victory in 3:13.12 while Nigeria finished closely with a time of 3:13.72. Botswana was far 3rd in 3:15.93.

This is Nigeria’s second consecutive Silver in the event. Okon-George, Ojeli, Onojuvwevwo and Ayo Adeola finished behind Botswana two years ago in Saint Pierre, Mauritius.
