The Nigerian duo of Samuel Ogazi and Chidi Okezie made their Olympic debut in the men’s 400m at the Paris Olympics.

National leader Samuel Ogazi broke his Personal Best (PB) with a time of 44.50s to place 2nd in his heat to earn an automatic qualifying spot behind Quincy Hall, who won in 44.28s.

African Games Champion, Chidi Okezie placed 4th in 45.52s to narrowly miss out on the automatic qualifying position but he did just enough to get himself to the repechage round, which he would be hoping to win in order to progress to the semifinals.

Matthew Hudson-Smith won the race in a time of 44.78s, with Chris Bailey finishing 2nd in 44.89s. Havard Inngvaldsen came 3rd in 45.46s.
