Mariam Eniola Bolaji and Chigozie Jeremiah Nnanna have made history as the first African athletes to win Badminton matches at a Paralympic Games!

Competing in Paris 2024 in the women’s singles, Mariam Eniola Bolaji continued her impressive form, defeating Australia’s Celine Aurelie Vinot 21-8, 21-14. This victory, her second consecutive win in Paris, secured her place in the quarterfinals on her first outing at the Games.

Meanwhile, Chigozie Jeremiah Nnanna striving to replicate Bolaji’s success a few hours later, faced Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan in the men’s singles, where he was beaten 2-0 with a scoreline of 21-12, 24-22.

Nnanna had won his opening match against Germany’s Marcel Adam on 29th August.

Bolaji and Nnanna have not only shattered barriers but have also firmly established themselves as formidable contenders on the para-sports global stage.
