Esther Nworgu wins Silver at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Photo: Para-powerlifting

Esther Ogechi Nworgu has won Silver in the women’s up to 41kg para-powerlifting in Paris, Nigeria’s second medal of the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Nworgu ensured the continued success of the nation in Paris, copping the highest finish so far by any Nigerian contingent in the French capital with a 2nd place finish, setting two new Paralympic Records en route with lifts of 112kg and 118kg in her final two attempts.

However, it was China’s Zhe Cui who claimed GOLD ultimately with a record-breaking lift of 119kg.

The competition was fierce, with both Nworgu and Cui breaking records in succession in their quest for victory, pushing one another to a total of four paralympic records during the event.

Nworgu’s initial attempt at 106kg was the second heaviest weight entered, just behind Cui’s 108kg.
