On the eighth day of the ongoing Paris Paralympics, Team Nigeria gave it their all in Para Powerlifting and Para Athletics, but narrowly missed out on the medals zone.
In the women’s F64 Shot Put, Goodness Nwachukwu put on a strong performance, landing in 4th place. She kept improving with each throw, starting at 9.41m and finishing with a Season’s Best (SB) of 11.49m. The event was won by China’s Juan Yao with 12.53m.
In the men’s up to 65kg Para Powerlifting event, Thomas Kure came close but finished in 5th place. His best lift was 205kg, and he went for 212kg on his final attempt, but unfortunately, it was marked as a no lift.
In the women’s up to 50kg class, Bose Bejide ended in 7th place with her best lift of
100kg. She started at 90kg, moved up to 100kg, but couldn’t complete her final attempt of 118kg.
Venezuela’s Sarahy Fuentes broke the Paralympic Record with a lift of 124 kg to win GOLD while China’s Jinping Xiao took Silver, and Great Britain’s Olivia Broome shared the same lift of 119kg.
In the women’s 400m T54 Heat 2, Nigeria’s
Hannah Babalola finished 7th with a time of 1:01.37, missing out on a spot in the final.
