Lauritta Onye, the Paralympic Champion from Rio 2016 and former World Record (WR) holder in the women’s Shot Put F40, ended her campaign at the Paris Paralympics in 5th place, just two spots shy from making the podium.

Onye’s best throw of the season of 8.50m, was achieved on her first attempt. Despite her strong performance, she struggled to improve on that mark and fouled on three of her six attempts.

Her stiffest competitor, Lara Baars from the Netherlands, won the event with a throw of 9.10m. Despite not reaching the podium this time, Onye’s contributions to the sport and her representation of Nigeria have been commendable.

Onye won a Bronze medal in Tokyo 2020 five years after she shattered the World and Paralympic Record in Rio 2016 to win GOLD. She celebrated her victory in grand style, much to the delight of the fans at the stadium.
