Nigeria’s team captain at the Paralympic Games, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, shattered her own World Record (WR) in the women’s Over 86kg Para-Powerlifting, lifting an incredible 167kg to win GOLD in Paris!

She dominated the competition, entering with a massive 157kg lift, a weight already strong enough to secure GOLD.

Oluwafemiayo then set a new Paralympic Record with a 162kg lift, done with remarkable ease. By then, it was clear her existing WR of 165kg was at risk.

For her third attempt, she lifted 166kg, flawlessly breaking her own World Record. Just as the crowd at La Chapelle Arena thought she was done, she returned for a final lift of 167kg, successfully breaking her own WR once more within minutes.

Her GOLD medal increased the country’s tally to 7 medals, having previously won a GOLD, three Silver and two Bronze medals.

China’s Xuemei Deng took 2nd place with 155kg, while Egypt’s Nadia Ali finished 3rd, lifting 145kg.
