Former Nigerian champion Ugonna Ndu enjoyed a podium place in the women’s 400m Hurdles at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in the US, clocking a time of 57.41s in the process.
The race was won by Great Britain’s Meghan Beesley (55.72s), while Claudia Francis settled for 2nd place in 56.13s.
The Nigerian is certainly battling to qualify for the forthcoming Rio Olympics but has a lot of work on her hands if she is to lower her time to the qualifying mark of 56.20s, thereby joining compatriot Amaka Ogoegbunam who has already qualified for the event.
Nigeria’s Adekunle Fasasi opted for the 200m instead of his trademark event, the 400m and placed 12th in 20.98s. He thereafter competed in the 4x400m and went on to finish 2nd with the Florida ‘A’ team (3:03.07), following the Train Gang ‘A’ (3:02.28), while the Belgium ‘A’ team took 3rd in 3:04.58.
Reigning Nigerian 100m women’s Champion Gloria Asumnu placed 12th in the overall rankings of her race which was won by Jamaica’s Simone Facey, clocking a time of 11.41s.
