At such a young age, Fidelia Ucheobi who was born on 21st June 2002, has already demonstrated that she is a go-getter who knows what she wants and goes for it, attributes that will go a long way in helping her career.
The teenager is currently one of four female U20 Athletes in the MoC Track Club (MoC). Having heard about the MoC Athletics Trials through a friend, Ucheobi decided to register for the Lagos edition despite being told she couldn’t make the cut by her then Coach who feared she wasn’t yet ready to meet the requirements.
Unperturbed, Fidelia decided to attend the Trials. It worked and as someone who knew exactly what she wanted, she comfortably won her heat and then went on to win the Girls 100m final. It was obvious with her outing at the Lagos Trials that she had enormous potentials, and she was immediately drafted in to join the U18 category of the club at the time. Her doggedness paid off!
She competed in the 2019 National U18 Trials in Ilaro, Ogun State, which was her first ever competition outside of Lagos, in the Girls’ 100m and 200m and set new PBs!
For 2020, Fidelia is concentrating a lot more on the 100m Hurdles where she is looking to carve a niche for herself alongside teammate Miracle Thompson. Her current PB of 15.84s in the event was set at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Classics in Ekiti.
